I have done my bachelor's program in Product Design at the Hoge School voor Kunst Utrech (HKU) which is more art-focused. During my bachelor's program at the HKU, I have developed myself in creativity and open-minded design thinking. This study allows me to freely design and to express my thoughts through design. Throughout my study, I have learned different practical crafting skills such as wood modeling, ceramics, painting, working with industrial machines, etc. Besides these crafting skills, I also developed myself in using digital tools for making designs such as 3D printing, laser cutting, and the basics of Arduino programming.
When I started the Industrial Design Program at the Eindhoven University of Technology, it was challenging for me in the beginning. Firstly, I think using different methodologies in designing is something that I am not familiar with before. I learned that design is not only focused on the designer itself, it is also needed to pay attention to the user. User experiences and services are also important aspects to create a good design. Besides that, different stakeholders need also to be considered for making decisions in design. I could say that my bachelors' study has shaped me of who I am, and my masters' study has developed me in finding my meaning towards society.


Creativity & Aesthetics
Creativity and Aesthetics is an expertise that I already have explored during my childhood. I think this is the most important reason for me to choose my follow-up studies in the field of design. This area of expertise has improved since my bachelors' study at the Art school. I have learned different practical and creative skills to make designs that are oriented in aesthetics. I was focused on making designs that are innovative and out of the box. Mostly, I interpreted things in a different way which people consider as something new or as an eye-opener. During my study at the TU/e, I think I have used my creative skills in different ways. Besides that I always can come up with cool ideas, I think I still could improve the aesthetic part. Hence, I have followed the electives Golden Ratio and Generative Arts to improve my design aesthetics. I have learned to generate mathematical patterns for making nice shapes in my designs and to implement for example the Golden Ratio in my design. Also in projects within a speculative design approach, I could enhance the design through creating provocative artifacts that trigger people to reflect and to realize current debates (Auger, 2013).
Technology & Realization
During my bachelor's program, I have learned to create a design with 3D printing, laser cutting, and different industrial devices. At the TU/e,  I have improved my prototyping skills with Arduino programming, using electronics, and using Processing. Although I think that I still have to learn a lot to make perfectly working prototypes, I think these skills could enhance my understanding of Industrial Design. In elective Creative Electronics, I explored different sensors and actuators for making an interactive design. During the Lecture Embodying Intelligent behavior, I gathered more insights about machine learning and to create intelligent systems. Although I think my technology and realization expertise is still weak in comparison with other expertise, I don't think this will be a problem for me to realize designs that fulfill different values.
Math Data & Computing
During my Bachelor's program, I had no to little experience with this expertise. Especially using big data in design was something that I have never done before. I think that current technological innovations need to implement these aspects to be successful. And as a designer, I wanted to improve this area of expertise to implement these skills in my design as well. Hence, in different projects and electives, I have tried to enhance my Math Data & Computing Skills. For example in the elective Golden Ratio and Generative Arts, I have learned to code mathematical formulas in processing for visualizing different patterns and data. I have gained knowledge in the elective Embodying Intelligent Behavior about how to use big data for collection and analyze different behaviors of individuals and to create appropriate designs. Als in the project Hagu, I improved my understanding of Math Data & Computing through the implementation of patient body data analysis in the final design. Although my skills in Math Data & Computing has improved a lot in comparison to my previous knowledge, I think I still need to spend more time in this expertise to reach my desired goal in Math Data & Computing.
User & Society
User and Society is an expertise area that I used in almost every project of my master's study: doing user studies and conduct user tests. Through including the user in the design process, I am able to make a product that fits the need of individuals, a target group, or a community. In the lecture User Experience Theory and Practices, I learned different methodologies to do user tests within approaches such as User-centered Design/ Human-centred Design, Emphatic Design, User Experience Design, etc. Through considering hedonic and pragmatic qualities in design evaluation, I could improve the design with reliable data. Besides focusing on individuals, I was also able to include different stakeholders during the design processes. These stakeholders include governmental organizations, design companies, social organizations, designers, scientists, engineers, etc. Through collaboration with these different stakeholders, I learned how design could fulfill the needs of the current society and how it could be realized.
Business & Entrepreneurship
During my bachelors' study, I was not much focused on the business side of a product. Also at the beginning of my master's program, I was not really interested in the business sides of my designs. However, I wanted to learn more about this subject, so I followed one of the business electives Design Innovation Strategies. I think the elective really has improved my skills and my knowledge in this field. What is more, since I was involved in a real business case project which went really well, my interest in business and entrepreneurship has increased more than ever before. In this lecture, I learned how to do market research, how to implement different business models and strategies to validate my design, and how to reach potential customers. After this lecture, I am able to be a member of the startup Upprinting Food that I have worked on within the case study. Throughout my second-year master's program, I did several projects within Upprinting Food: participating in business events, focusing on creating a platform for chefs, doing presentations, and much more. These experiences are valuable to me for my future focuses and are insightful for creating my own design business strategies.
Research, Design & Development
During my bachelor's program, I have gained some experiences with making iterative designs. However, when I started doing projects at the TU/e, I think I still lack in doing design research constructively. In the course Constructive Design Research, I have broadened my view on what design and research means. I learned to use different design methodologies and approaches to create something that is based on research. In this elective, I explored the lab, field, and showroom methodologies to conduct appropriate research in my design. In the electives User Experience Theory and Practice and User Evaluation Methods, I gained knowledge about how to do different user tests and to gather qualitative and quantitative data. I realized that conducting user-tests for reviews and evaluations on the design is an important step to take when I want to develop my product. Through using different questionnaires and data analyzing models, I could improve my design such that it is user-friendly.
